There are many facets to being a Professional Musician. Being a front man, playing a soaring solo, accompanying a vocalist as a duo, playing tight rhythm parts or even playing as an acoustic soloist!
Studying at The Academy will allow you to function and flourish in ANY musical setting. Focusing on the foundations of your playing, then allowing the personal and creative areas of your playing to flourish.
On this full time BTEC course, you will study for 16 hours per week in the following classes:

Pro Tools 101 - Introduction to Pro Tools
Temporary
If you record music for fun using Pro Tools, or if you want to make a serious career from Audio Engineering then this course is for you. If the only training you've had on Pro Tools is reading the manual then the chances are that you're only using about 5% of what Pro Tools is capable of.
Avid's Certification courses aim to make you an expert in the use and operation of the Pro Tools software so that there is nothing you can't do and no oal you can't achieve.
As an Avid Authorised training location, The Academy of Music and Sound Southampton offers a 6 week long evening course in how to use Pro Tools to a professional level.
This takes place on Monday evenings from 6pm - 9pm starting on the 2nd April '13.

Overview
This course covers basic Pro Tools principles. It provides everything you need to complete a Pro Tools project-from initial set up to final mixdown. The course focuses on Pro Tools software and covers a multitude of new functions and feature enhancements. Whether your project involves recording live instruments, MIDI sequencing of software synthesizers, or audio editing or region looping, this course will give you the basic skills to succeed.
Audience
This course is designed for the audio enthusiast with little to no Pro Tools experience.

The Pro Tools 101 course includes Course Material, Exam Feed ( 2 attempts ) and training. A £50 deposit is required to book a place.
Courses are taught by Avid Certified Instructors who are experts in the software and skilled audio engineers.

The Academy of Music and Sound in Southampton has teamed up with River Studios to host a brand new Music Production Degree.
The first Degree to be run from a working commercial recording studio, the programme will see Students being trained in a state of the art professional working environment, working with the pinnacle of industry equipment including Pro Tools HD, SSL Interface and console and some of the most respected outboard in the industry including preamps from Focusrite and Rupert Neve, Drawmer, Universal Audio and Avalon.
River features a large control room – where weekly lessons will be conducted - a drum booth, vocal booth and a number of recording spaces all patched into the main control room.
There is also a small café and a chill out area for students to relax in before lessons.
Selected students will also be given the opportunity to assist River’s engineers on commercial sessions – giving them an opportunity to build a portfolio of professional work experience that will help build their profile as engineers.
On top of this – successful Applicants to the Southampton Academy will also be given an Audio Qualified Laptop, Focusrite interface and a copy of Pro Tools to kick off their studies.
And if that wasn’t enough – where as Universities in Southampton are charging £9000 per year for their Production Courses, Academy students will only be charged £3990 per year!
The course will be taught in the evenings, opening up the opportunity for existing engineers and daytime workers to apply.

The Academy of Music and Sound offers music technology courses that are firmly focused on developing the skills necessary for effective creative music writing and sound recording. Students in every area of work in the Academy of Music and Sound are actually encouraged to engage with music technology as a tool for personal creative development. In addition, the Academy of Music and Sound also runs dedicated courses for those who may either want to simply improve their skills, or those with an interest in pursuing a career in sound recording or in electronic music composition.
Our full-time music technology courses have been designed to equip you with both the technical knowledge and practical experience required to enable you to work in the music technology industry. To sustain work in this sector of the music industry, we believe that all students should be able to play a musical instrument and be able to operate equipment for both recording and live sound, as well as having a thorough knowledge of how the industry works and how to survive as a freelance worker.
As such, our courses focus on teaching you how to record and mix live bands who are studying on our music performance courses. During a music recording project students will have the opportunity to learn how to use Pre-tools and record their own composition. All students attend Master-class sessions throughout the course with world-renowned musicians and trips to industry events/trade shows
