Dr Douglas A Simper PhD, MEduc, BMus(Hons), BA, DipT. is an Australian music educator, composer and concert pianist now living in the UK. He has developed a unique approach to piano teaching called 'Hands on Music'and the method is being launched in Australia and New Zealand in July 2009.

Ph.D. in Music Composition (1999)- Southern Cross University, Lismore, New South Wales. Awarded a four year scholarship. The project resulted in a music theatre work called 'Venus in Eritrea'. The thesis (2 volumes) included research, journal, play text, fullscore and CD and involved research into peace studies, postmodernism, East African music, Eritrean history, music theatre styles and cross-cultural studies. The score uses a fusion/world music style.

Master of Education in Creative Arts (1995)- University of New South Wales. Studies included Educational Administration, Research Methods, Drama Methodology, Music Theatre, Pop, Rock and Jazz Studies. The main thesis was the development of an integrated piano method for beginners, 'Hands on Music', incorporating original compositions, music concept stories, theory, aural games, movement, singing, composition and music appreciation.
