Emma began playing the flute at the age of 12 and continued this through to University level completing a BA in Music from Brunel University. Emma is currently studying a Music Therapy Masters at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Emma started playing classical styles but whilst at University began experimenting with contemporary, jazz and improvisation.

Emma began teaching the flute whilst at university, and has continued since graduating and is continuing whilst studying her masters.

Flute Tuition is often given on a 1-1 basis but if you have 2 or 3 who wish to learn we can discuss how to proceed with a group lesson.

Emma teaches from beginners, those who are new to the flute and/or new to music entirely aswell as any age! You would need your own flute to have lessons as you need to be able to practice in-between lessons, but please contact if you want to trial learning the flute before commiting to buying an instrument.

Some younger children might not be sure they want to learn the flute, so one way to confirm with them is to either learn the recorder and then progress to the flute once they know the flute is the instrument for them, or we start on the Fife.

Some people wish to play and complete grades, and some would rather explore the instrument without the added pressure of learning specific pieces for a graded examination. If you wish to take the grades then Emma teaches and submits for the ABRSM exam syllabus, Emma herself worked through these exams for both her instrument and theory.

Everyone has different tastes and Emma is no exception to this, because everyone is different each student has individual tailor made lessons to support and bring out the best in their playing. From Classical and Traditional Flute Repetoire through to Contemporary Styles, there is a style and genre for every person and Emma thrives in the challenge of finding those special pieces for her students.
