Gareth Rees is based in the Cardiff area of Wales and has one of the most established teaching studios in the country. He has taught the trumpet, cornet and flügel horn from beginner to professional standard, and the horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba from beginner to grade 8 standard.
Gareth started to play the flügel horn in the brass bands of Wales and became the principal flügel horn player with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain before progressing to work as a professional trumpeter. He has played in all fields of music including jazz, pop, and musical theatre. Gareth is currently working as a free-lance musician with a number of classical orchestras including The Welsh Sinfonia and The Renaissance Orchestra. He is also Lead Trumpet with a number of Big Bands.
Gareth has held a number of teaching positions including from 1992 to 2003 the Brass Instrumental Tutor at Christ College, from 1994 to 2006 the Brass Instrumental Tutor at Malvern Girls' College, from 2006 to 2015 the Brass Instrumental Tutor at Malvern St James, and from 1996 to 2017 was a tutor at the Junior Conservatoire of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. He is currently employed as the Brass Instrumental Tutor at Beaudesert Park School, Minchinhampton (since September 2002) and Wycliffe College (since 2008). Currently, Gareth has over 30 private pupils. He is also a full member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and is listed on their Register of Professional Private Music Teachers.
From 2008 to 2018 Gareth was on the panel of tutors for the National Children's Orchestras Of Great Britain.
