PADI Openwater

This is the first complete PADI SCUBA (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) diving course that takes you from total beginner to becoming a certified diver. This certification allows you to go diving with somebody with at least your level of training or higher in conditions similar or better than that in which you were trained.

You are restricted to going no deeper than 18 meter's, 60 feet.
This then allows you to explore, relax, meet a whole new social circle that allows you to travel anywhere in the world, knowing that you will have fun and meet like minded people. You will see or experience something wonderful, on a far too regular basis, trust me! Diving really adds a third dimension to your life!
What Is the PADI Open Water Certification?
After you successfully complete all portions of the PADI Open Water Diver course you are awarded a certification card. The certification does not expire. However if you have not been diving for while, you should participate in the PADI Scuba review program.

Is there a swim test? How old must I be?
You do not need to be an Olympic swimmer to complete the course but yes there is a swim test. By the end of the course you must complete either a 200-meter swim or 300 meter snorkel. This swim has no time limit and you may swim in any stroke you like. There is also a 10 minute survival float test. You must be 10 or older. You should be in reasonably good health.. For those under 15 you will be awarded the Junior Open Water Diver rating. This is exactly the same course but an adult must accompany the junior diver until reaching 15 years old. The certification can then be upgraded.

We require you to have a Medical from a GP which we can arrange before we can take you into the Open Water environment to make sure that you are fit and healthy for diving.

The Open Water Diver Course

NOTE: The Ocean Academy open water diver course is limited to a maximum of four persons and run for a minimum of one.

The course is divided into three segments:

1. Knowledge Development
There are five sections to go through. This starts by you reading in your own time a section, filling out the Knowledge review found at the end of the said section. The class meets and your instructor will go through the Knowledge review you have completed. Then you will watch a PADI video followed by an Instructor talking through the information already given. Then you are given a 10-question quiz to make sure you understood everything. This is the same for all five sections except on the last section you will be given a 50-question test. The pass mark is 75% or higher. If you have reading difficulties the test can be oral.

Special help is at hand to make sure younger students understand everything.

2. Confined Water Training
This is where you will learn the skills to dive safely. There are five confined sessions each conducted at a local swimming pool.

3. Open Water Dives
Four Open Water dives are required for certification. In this part you must demonstrate your ability to perform the skills you learnt in the Confined water training sessions. The Open Water dives are conducted in a Lake, Sea or similar body of water. You have one year to complete your four Open Water dives from the time you finish your Confined Water training and Knowledge sections.

After you pay your course fees you will receive all materials including the Go Dive Manual. We will then have our first meeting. Here we will arrange five dates for academic sessions and five dates for confined water training sessions. You should then in your own time read the first section of you Manual and complete the knowledge review before attending the first academic session.
The cost is £420-00 for the complete course.

This includes all course materials and certification. Dive equipment including wet suits and four open water dives, usually all from a boat. Prices exclude transport to dive site, parking fees and accommodation costs. Max 6 per course.

The cost of completing the two sections including knowledge development and confined water training is £250. On successful completion of these sections you will receive a referral. This price includes: Manual, dive equipment, and all tuition and pool fees. There is a maximum 6 persons per Open Water course.

The Referral level gives you one year to successfully complete the four Open Water dives required to become a PADI Open Water Diver.

Open Water Dives
The cost is £250 (if not booked earlier at the special package price at the start of confined water training). £250 includes all four dives, rental of scuba equipment including a dry suit. We recommend you purchase your own fins, boots, gloves, hood, mask and snorkel for personal fit and hygiene.

The course fee does not include travel to the Open Water site, parking costs and accommodation at the dive site.
