Janet Hagger-Lay (BSc DMS CertEd CGIL MIfL)
I have 30 years’ experience teaching Design and Crafts to adults studying for City & Guilds: Fashion & Design, Soft Furnishing & Design and Interior Decoration & Design. In recent years I have also taught 16-19’s on the BTEC Extended Diploma in Art & Design: Interior Crafts, Textiles and Fashion pathways and works additionally as an External Verifier. Since December 2012 I have worked full time self-employed developing the loft space a creative hub at The Standedge Tunnel and Visitor Centre in Marsden, alongside my own business greenfusions based in the loft space.
Employment History
1975 - Janet worked and trained as a Textile Technologist with Courtaulds Northern Spinning Division at The Heron Mill, Oldham, attending Oldham College of Technology on day release to qualify. Attending night classes Janet studied City and Guilds Advanced Fashion and Design /Pattern making at Oldham’s Adult Education centre, Chaucer Street.
1980 - Janet was the buyer and manageress for Fabrics & Haberdashery within the Mall shopping store, Union Street Oldham, Studying at night school she qualified as a Teacher in Further Education through Manchester University.
1983 - Janet was self-employed as a Tailoress/Dressmaker/Soft Furnisher and part time tutor with Oldham Community Education teaching dressmaking for visually impaired learners and learners with learning difficulties she also provided private tuition. Went back to night school to study city and guilds soft furnishings and design to enhance teaching breadth.
1985 - 1990 became a mum to two daughters Sarah & Helen continued to work as a Part time tutor.
1992 - Studied City & Guilds Advanced Interior Design & Decorative Effects. Full time and worked as a part time tutor with Oldham Youth and community services and The Oldham College.
1994 - Full time Lecturer/Programme Leader the Oldham College teaching City & Guilds: Interior design and decorative paint Effects plus Soft furnishings
2001 - Studied: Diploma In Management Studies (Hull University).
2006 - Studied: Art History (Open University) & Floral Design.
2008 - Studied: Innovation & Design for a Sustainable Future (Open University).

Excellent way to relax no counting necessary. Great for keeping hands busy and producing professional looking hats scarves cushions bags blankets etc.
Start to Patchwork and Quilt
Make a beautiful patchwork cushion using your own recycled fabric and/or choose from our cotton patchwork fabrics…
make a bubble patch cushion made using partly using a sewing machine or choose the hand sewn patchwork and create a grandmother’s garden or star design using English piecework.
'trugrug'
green*fusions 'trugrug'© workshop
Design and learn the techniques of producing your very own 'trugrug' family heirloom and use up all those old t-shirts in the process!
'trugrug' is green*fusions very own method of rag rugging which uses non-fray rot proof eco backing and re-cycled t-shirts. The workshop cost includes a (90 x 60cm) canvas and materials to start you off.
*Please bring with you a selection or at least one t-shirt to recycle and start your project.
Note: This particular course is aimed at adults and accompanied children aged 8 and over.
Hunky Chunky Crochet Hook
Chunky 20/25mm crochet hooks made by us in Marsden from reclaimed wood…
Try something different, crochet with super chunky and multi stranded yarns, try out fabric and other recycled materials for quick and easy scarves, bath mats, rugs, bags, oven gloves and much more…make an item in a couple of hours! Suitable for beginners and experienced crocheters.

The days are getting longer and summers on its way ..summer evenings at Standedge are a great way to relax in out beautiful setting and learn some new skills.
Individual tuition provided with use of our sewing machines, embroidery machine four thread over locker and needle felting/fabric embellisher.
Bring along a pattern and material or a child's dress to copy ...bring along measurements for windows and plan out how much fabric you will need to buy...mend up cycle the choice is yours.
