Joanna Mason is a jewellery artist and designer working out of Harpenden, Hertfordshire. She has been making and designing jewellery professionally for around 5 years. Joanna works with a mixed media of different materials ranging from silver and gold to plastics, resins and found objects. She is a member of the Precious Metal Clay Guild, Assosiation of Contemporary Jewellery and specialises in teaching Resins in Jewellery and Metal Clay workshops, including PMC, Art Clay, BronzClay and CopprClay.

Joanna runs Hertfordshire School of Jewellery. HSJ runs a comprehensive programme of workshops for adults, from beginners to the more experienced artist. Joanna aims to awaken the inbuilt creativity which we all possess, endeavouring to improve mental, physical and emotional wellbeing through the creative process. HJS strives to revive and keep alive art and craft skills by encouraging artists and crafts people to pass on these skills. Hertfordshire School of Jewellery is driven through the organisation of workshops, and through the collaboration of designers, artists and makers within the community.

Fused Glass Jewellery

This workshop is an introduction to the art of kiln formed glass. You will learn how to fuse glass to make your own small items, cabochons for jewellery making, and beautiful fused glass pendants. This workshop starts with an introduction to glass fusing, including cutting skills and technical information. This workshop will also cover information on microwave kilns- so you can keep on fusing when you get home in your very own microwave oven! This course is suitable for complete beginners so don't worry if you have never tried anything like this before! Silver Clay Ring Making

Make handcrafted silver precious metal clay rings. Learn how to build rings using a mandrel and how to make them the right size after firing. You will leave with at least 2 finished rings – one continuous band and one open band. Level: intermediate to advanced, prior metal clay experience is necessary. Advanced Silver Clay Jewellery Workshop (Precious Metal Clay, Art Clay)

If you want to further your Silver clay skills then this is the workshop for you! You will get to experiment with all the forms of Silver Clay – from lump form, paste, syringe and even silver clay paper! We will also be exploring hollow forms and bead making. You will learn about the advantages of using these different versions of Silver Clay. During this workshop will learn all the skills you need to further your Silver Clay Work but also leave with 4-6 pieces of finished jewellery. Resin Filled Jewellery Bezels

Explore the art of resin jewellery; learn how to use resin using a variety of techniques to fill jewellery bezels. Layer images, collage elements and small objects in clear resin to create keepsake charms for a bracelet or pendant, or mix colourful pigment powders and dyes with the resin for a colourful cold enamelled effect without the need for a kiln! Casting Resin for Jewellery

Learn to cast fabulous resin jewellery by creating your own moulds! Discover how to use found objects to create moulds for casting. Embed images, small objects and goodies or layer up coloured resins to create a beautiful effect. A hand cast bangle, beads and other cast jewellery pieces will be shown from making the model to the completed piece of jewellery. Polymer Clay is such a versatile & inexpensive material that can be transformed into stunning beads and jewellery. A Touch of Gold - Adding Gold to Silver Clay

In this workshop you will learn the art of adding gold detailing to fired silver clay pieces. You will learn the ancient Korean technique of how to fuse 24k Gold Foil to your very own Pure Silver creations. This is a brilliant way of adding Gold to your pieces without it costing a fortune. Unique Textures for Metal Clay and Polymer Clay Artists

Over the course of this workshop you will learn the techniques needed to create unique textures for your Precious Metal Clay or Polymer Clay work. This class will cover techniques in carving stamps, making moulds, creating tearaway textures and making stamps using Photopolymer plates. You will leave not only with the techniques but finished textures to take away and use at home. If you’re bored of using shop bought textures this is the workshop for you! This workshop is also applicable to those who want to learn to make their own stamps for card making, scrap booking or textured ceramics. This workshop will introduce the basics of making your own silver jewellery. You will learn the art of chain making to produce your very own sterling silver bracelet by the end of the day. Experienced Workshop Leader

Joanna Mason is a jewellery artist and designer working out of Harpenden, Hertfordshire – the founder of The Albion Arts and The Hertfordshire School of Jewellery. She has been making and designing jewellery professionally for around 5 years. Joanna works with a mixed media of different materials ranging from silver and gold to plastics, resins and found objects. She is a member of the Precious Metal Clay Guild, Association of Contemporary Jewellery and specialises in teaching Resin and Metal Clay workshops, including PMC, Art Clay, BronzClay and CopprClay, trained to the highest Diploma level at the Mid Cornwall School of Jewellery.

Therefore it is the first truly independent qualification and sets the new standard for excellence within the PMC world. The course is recognised by the PMC Guild International and in fact the grades of competency actually exceed the minimum requirements suggested by the PMC Guild.

Full refunds incur a 10% admin charge. This is to cover unrecoverable tutor and material costs. All prices are quoted per person. The cancellation of a workshop due to circumstances beyond our control is at our discretion, notification will be given as soon as the decision is made.
