I teach English Language/Literature at the following levels; Primary, Key Stage 3, GCSE, A Level and Degree. I am a graduate of the University of Warwick and hold an MA and a BA in English Literature. I also hold a full enhanced CRB disclosure certificate. I have experience of providing one-to-one tuition and in the past I have received very positive feedback from pupils and parents. In particular they have noted the strength of my commitment to the tutoring process and my original approach to teaching English. Each of my students receives an individual scheme of work, specifically tailored to their needs.

I am a patient and friendly tutor and I am very keen to see my students not just excel academically but also connect with the subject. Studying English teaches the student valuable life skills and allows them to experience the strong sense of personal fulfilment that comes from reading great literature.

Experience

Education Assistant

I work as an Education Assistant at the Chatham Dockyard. I help to deliver a range of educational sessions on topics such as World War Two, the Tudors and the Victorians. I am also responsible for guiding the school parties around the Dockyard site safely.

Dates:
May 2010 - Jun 2010

Secondary classroom work experience

I spent a week at the Thomas Aveling School observing English lessons. This experience was highly beneficial as it allowed me to see how my own tutoring links with what is being taught in schools and to ensure that my material is still relevant to the school curriculum. At the end of the week I was given the opportunity to deliver some lessons at KS3 and GCSE level.

Private English Tutoring

I have been running a professional tutoring service since January and have taught students at primary, GCSE and A Level. I have received a great deal of positive feedback from students in a short space of time and many have commented on my original approach to teaching this subject and the strength of my commitment to the tutoring process.

Dates:
Jan 2010 - Jun 2010

Primary Classroom Experience

I spent three days at Gordon Junior School as a classroom assistant. In particular I was given the opportunity to work with pupils in small groups, focusing on basic literacy and numeracy skills. It was this experience that first began my interest in teaching others.

I was also able to take advantage of Warwick's new method of teaching Shakespeare through practical workshops instead of conventional seminars, a learning experience which has greatly influenced my own approach to teaching Shakespeare.
