It has been used for centuries to optimise health and well being and is very adaptable for all age groups due to its versatility and ability to adapt to the individual.

The Saturday School

The Saturday School
Burnt Oak Lane Junior School – Sidcup – 02083007548
Proprietor - Paul Stanton.

Tuition for children of all abilities in a safe ability grouped environment.
Here all children can thrive and fulfil their potential.

Step 1. Assessment / Consultancy – find out how your child is getting on at school and if there are any areas they need help with.
Step 2. Prepare a programme of study tailored to the individual needs of the child.
Step 3. Place the child with a qualified teacher and other children of similar ability. The child will learn to work as a member of a team, learn to function independently and be encouraged to ask for support when they are unsure. They will move up only when they complete each level.

School Years 1 and 2 - Age 5 to 7
We provide opportunities for the children to work on key concepts involved with Reading, Writing and Number and prepare them for their year 2 Standard Assessment Tests. Provide practical activities and games to build confidence and good team spirit.

School Years 3, 4 and 5 – Age 7 to 10
The children continue to work on Standard Assessment Test topics and prepare for Selective Tests that are offered throughout the various boroughs. Mental agility for Maths has a continuous strong focus and Reasoning skills are studied with a stronger emphasis being given for all students in year 5. Each half term there is a different English focus ensuring that throughout the year the children build strong skills in comprehension, punctuation, spelling, grammar, story, descriptive, letter and reportive writing. The emphasis on working hard for themselves and the benefits this brings is stressed in a friendly, fun and rewarding environment.

School Year 6
The children now focus on any selective tests they are still preparing for. The focus then switches back totally to the study of English and Maths skills. During both sessions, teachers ensure that the children are prepared as well as possible for their SATs or levelling tests. The children who have passed their selective tests work extremely hard to ensure they get their level 5 grades. Selective schools have an expectation that students will have attained level 5 across the board in English and Maths prior to starting year 7.

Secondary Groups
These groups cater for year 6 students, who are working to a high standard on level 5 material or above in at least some areas of English and Maths. This is along with year 7, 8 and 9 students who have shown that they are willing to work hard. There is a mix of ability levels. The children are grouped with similar ability students for pour Math’s groups, and age groups in English with year 6 and 7’s being together and year 8’s and 9. We hope that the children will continue to work with us towards their GCSE exams and maybe even A Levels.

Extra Courses Offered
Inventing a story through drama, fun and games - Open generally to our own students.
11+ mock exams and revision courses. – Open to all Year 5 students.

During both sessions, teachers ensure that the children are prepared as well as possible for their S A T’s. The children who have passed their selective tests work extremely hard to ensure they get their level 5 grades. Selective schools strive for level 7’s in English and Maths when they take the Year 8 S A Ts and in order for a selective child to be ready for this challenge they need to ensure that all of level 5 has been attained. Our teachers are qualified to teach up to a Level 6 grade and it is these children, who are able to study this level with us, who generally gain one of the top 180 selective places. It is all credit to us that some of our students actually fulfil this goal. Non selective students may stay with us until the end of Year 7 in order to prepare for a 12 + selective test or until they have completed our level 6 programme of study. This will ensure that they are ready to start preparing for their GCSE’s
