Beginners courses exploring the fundamentals of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. The courses are suitable for those that have no prior yoga experience.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a style of yoga with a unique movement/breathing system, vinyasa. This yoga practice becomes a moving meditation, the use of vinyasa to link posture to posture results in a heated practice and therefore is a dynamic and strong form of yoga. Each movement is dictated by a breath so the practioner can truely become absorbed in the flow of the movement.
Each class within the course will encompass some time to develop a sitting practice with focus on the breath and the class will end with a final relaxation allowing the body to absorb the practice and leaving you feeling re-freshed.
Over the course emphasis will be on the practioner developing a 'self practice', this means that from the beginning you will be encouraged to begin to learn the sequence of postures so that you can begin to practice your yoga at home. The last two weeks of the class will be in a self practice format and at the end of the course you will be able to then progress into a Mysore class format where you work in time with your own breath. This is the traditional style in which Ashtanga Yoga is taught and I am greatly influenced by my teachers John & Lucy Scott who pass on this method from Sri K Pattabhi Jois the Guru of Ashtanga Yoga.
