Family Yoga
Family Yoga class
I have been teaching adults Yoga for 5 years, I qualified with the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) and since having my own children have enjoyed including them in my practice. I completed the BWY Childrens module in 2010 and have been teaching this family class since.
The class is designed to give you, the adult a workout whilst introducing your child/ren to the wonderful world of Yoga through stories and games. Each class will start with a fun warm up followed by a story incorporating Yoga postures (asanas). Don't worry all the Yoga postures that I use in class are accessible to all (so no getting tied up in knots!) We will finish with a relaxation and then craft activity.
As a family you will be encouraged to cooperate and come together to flow in and out of postures. Yoga is perfect for children. Younger children enjoy making fun animal shapes and older children enjoy the flow and challenge of yoga poses. Babies or toddlers may be content to sit with you on the mat and observe at times during the class. I will try to make the class as enjoyable as possible for everyone regardless of age or ability. Yoga is an inclusive non competitive holistic system that stretches and strengthens the body whilst relaxing and focusing the mind leading to a better understanding, awareness and appreciation of the whole being that is beneficial to all.
Hatha Yoga
Classical Yoga mixed with modern, each class tailored to the individual needs within the class.
Beginners to advanced catered for.
Each week we focus on particular aspects of yoga – postures & physical fitness (+ safety, benefits etc), breath control, relaxation, philosophy, mantra etc.
We do preparatory work leading up to the postures (asanas) so that we are able to do them to the best of our ability. The preparation may well include doing other classical asanas.
There will always be a backbend, forward bend, side bend and a balance to ensure a fully rounded approach.
Breathing techniques are always included and the class is punctuated with pauses to feel the effects of the work and to reflect on it.
Each class starts with a short period of centering/relaxation and finishes with a longer period of relaxation.
