Mrs Watt is an active performer and a dedicated teacher. Her output as a performer is varied – incorporating activities as a classical guitarist and also a singer (Glasgow University Chapel Choir, vocal ensemble Cantainn). Currently she is a senior student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (graduating in July 2014) studying with the renowned teacher and guitarist Allan Neave.

Mrs Watt has a busy teaching practice in Glasgow where she teaches students of all ages and abilities. In addition to private teaching she also teaches children with additional support needs in the project ’Play on’ created by the Paragon ensemble.

Mrs Watt employs a large range of teaching materials and methods (including the Kodaly method), tailoring her approach to suit the different needs and goals of each individual. Lessons can cover anything from simple chordal accompaniment to advanced classical guitar repertoire and can also be directed at specific goals such as preparing for the ABRSM, Trinity examinations.

Mrs Watt also welcomes small groups of students in which case the cost of the lesson could be shared by the participants (parents wanting to learn with their children or several children wanting to learn together). In these cases it is best to concentrate on chordal accompaniment and simple ensemble repertoire, leaving open the option of receiving some one-to-one lessons later on.

Lessons generally last for one hour with younger children benefiting most from lessons of 30-45 min in duration. However, these are only general guidelines and can be altered to suit each individual.

Mrs Watt is happy to provide a 30 min free of charge consultation lesson. This gives the student a chance to decide whether to commit to regular lessons and is also helpful for identifying the goals and aims of the student to tailor an individual development plan. Once a student commits to regular lessons an advance payment for four lessons is required (a refund for a lesson can be issued if 48h notice is given by the student).

In place of the consultation lesson, Mrs Watt can provide assistance with selecting and purchasing an instrument (requiring a subscription for at least one paid lesson). This could include both over the phone advice and visiting a music shop. In the case of young children where the size of the instrument must first be decided upon it would also include a brief consultation session.
