Experience
Personal experience as a teacher
I have been teaching for over four years and in that time I have taught tenor horn, cornet, trumpet, euphonium, baritone and French horn. My pupils’ ages have ranged from 6 to 30, and I welcome any age or ability. I hope to promote a real sense of musical awareness and musicality, I began learning music in a community environment so I like my pupils to enjoy making music with other people, even if it is only by playing duets in our lesson. I love making music and I hope to inspire that in my pupils, which is motivating and enriching. I have experience teaching children with dyslexia.
I started tutoring very young as part of a community wind band. My first teacher was one of the older members of the band, and as I grew and improved I started to teach the younger members of the group. This community feeling inspired me to teach more, and I found that although it was a bit scary at first I really enjoyed sharing my knowledge. I think this environment fostered a love of learning that I really like to bring to my own teaching. Now that I have moved to London to study I no longer teach members of that band, but what I learnt there will always stay with me and I think it still inspires me with my pupils today.
