Louise McDonald
Louise has had a varied and creative performing career, from singing in Scottish Opera to devising performance poetry pieces with Scots songs with Solar Bear Theatre Company and Theatre Works. She was a winner of the Young Singers' Messiah Competition and performed Handel's Messiah at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall.
Her other awards include a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Festival for Dream State, where she sang the vocal track and grants from the Scottish Arts Council for a debut recital in London, for study in Germany and Finland. As well as singing the great choral works and giving solo recitals, Louise enjoys singing jazz standards and had a residency at the Glasgow Garden Festival.
This variety of repertoire and knowledge of vocal technique enables her to teach many different styles of music, from musical theatre, contemporary, jazz to classical. She has given many workshops and taught individual singers in bands. After a development period with Louise, the rock band, Hiding Place, were awarded a full contract with BMG.
Louise teaches children and has completed an intensive course in Kodaly Musicianship. Her approach is encouraging, fun and enables people of all ages and stages to enjoy singing in a relaxed atmosphere.
Testimonial
' I would like to let you know that Louise Macdonald has been a wonderful tutor. She has given me so much confidence in my singing that i decided to apply for the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama's BA in scottish music . She prepared me vocally and helped me with audition nerves. My singing lessons have lifted me in so many ways, oh and i'm delighted to say that I got in to the academy! I become a full time mature student in September. Louise has shown me so much expertise as well as her warm personal qualities as a tutor. I am so glad that I met her through vocal tutor. Many thanks. X'
