Maggie Hall worked for many years in admin and PA roles in both the private and public sectors before retraining as a Teacher of Speech and Drama and being awarded the Licentiate Teacher’s Diploma of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, with Distinction.

She now works in private practice, teaching all aspects of speech, drama and communication skills, including presentation skills, public speaking, interview skills and voice coaching (including specialist voice awareness training for professional voice users such as teachers, lecturers and broadcast journalists), as well as the speaking of verse and prose and acting skills, including mime and improvisation. She has run several successful short Adult Education courses in both acting and public speaking and has taught Voice to adult drama students at the Academy of Creative Training in Brighton. She also runs audition coaching workshops and undertakes audition coaching sessions for individuals on a private consultation basis. Many of her students enter for the graded LAMDA examinations or the RADA Shakespeare Certificates and for the Speech and Drama section of the Worthing Music Festival. Maggie is a Past President of the Brighton and Hove Speakers’ Club and has gained the Toastmasters International “Competent Toastmaster” and bronze "Advanced Communicator" awards for public speaking.

Group Workshops (maximum number 20) in any of the above subjects can be arranged for business, clubs, societies, schools and other organisations. A schedule of fees is available on application. Some organisations who have used her services include:

BBC South News
Cherrywood Investments (Stanmer House)
University College Chichester (Department of Education)
The National Operatic and Dramatic Association
The Academy of Creative Training, Brighton

One-to-one lessons

Group Classes

Maggie Hall's School of Speech and Drama

Saturday morning class for children aged 8-16 (classes for older age groups will be started if enough interest)every Saturday during term time. The age groups may be split into two one hour classes, depending on how many children there are in each age group.

Children can come just for fun if they wish, but if interested they will be encouraged to enter for the graded Speech and Drama examinations of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). They also have the opportunity to take part in the Worthing Festival next February.

We learn about improvisation, mime, acting, how to speak poetry and prose and general communication skills. Students will be expected to work hard and practise between classes, learning poems, pieces of prose and scenes and monologues for their acting exams or festival entries.

This is a school, not a theatre group, so we don't do any musical theatre or stage a big show at the end of the year, although we may put on small presentations for families and friends.
