Soprano Marije Rommes (1974) first took a degree in Music Education at the Zwolle conservatoire in The Netherlands and then went on to train as a singer, her true passion. She started these studies in 1999, again at the Zwolle conservatoire with Felix Schoonenboom, and completed her training successfully in 2003.

Simultaneously she studied Musicology at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, where she took an MA degree in 2004 and wrote an extended essay on the castrato singer Guadagni.

As well as performing as a singer, she was engaged as a choirmaster with several choirs and was attached to the School of Music in Zwolle as a teacher. She performs regularly as a soloist in a variety of concerts from Monteverdi, Bach, Mozart to Verdi, Poulenc and Manneke. Furthermore she performed in the professional ASKO chamber choir led by Jos Leussink, a choir breaking new ground in executing the latest Dutch classical music.

Marije has been living in London since April 2007 and is steadily building up her singing practice there.

From Wednesday January 21st - February 25th a practical course in (choir) singing will start.
