martin chivers

Currently running “Martin Chivers Photography” in Radstock. I opened my business in November 1986. Martin Chivers Photography is a general photography practice, undertaking mainly portraits, weddings and commercial and architectural photography. Other services I provide include picture framing and passport photographs.

I have diversified greatly (with some success) into fine art photography, studio hire and education. I run digital training days (this is mainly the use of Adobe Photoshop, but includes all aspects of the digital workflow, from capture to print) for up to 3 people together and also one-to-one add hock training.

I also run Studio-Model days, amateur photographers use the facilities of my studio where I offer lighting training, technical help and posing advice if necessary.

I was a very early adopter of digital capture technology, making that switch in 1999. That was undertaken 100% with no transition time from film. I used Mamiya 645 & RZ67 film cameras together with Canon SLRs, prior to switching to Canon digital cameras (with a D30). I have upgraded to the very latest (top of the range) body, every time there has been a new model released & have had a few 1 series bodies, but now use a 5Dmk11. I have a total of 4 computers; one is a new 27inch iMac. I have developed my own custom workflow protocols, from scratch, in the absence of any established processes in the public domain, at that time. This was all self taught. I use Microsoft Office 2011, (mainly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) Canon DPP (for raw imaging) and Photoshop CS5.

I was very impressed with the way in which Martin enabled me to get on with the shoots, in once sense throwing me in at the deep end, but being there in the background when necessary. The studio has many facilities and I have been particularly attracted to a painted canvas backdrop, which has enabled me to do some vintage lingerie shots to good effect. All this on top of regular visits in which I have managed to become quite versed in Photoshop under Martin's guidance, and the benefit of the many A4 prints he has produced for me. Just had a fantastic studio day shoot, with model Slinky86, at Martin's studio. The studio is very well equipped with a great range of backdrops and high quality props. Martin was very helpful providing as much advice and assistance as required and this enabled me to get a great range of lighting effects. Very highly recommended.

I recently attended a Model Day shoot at Martins Studio and it was a great success .It was well organised and the Model subperb .The studio is well equipped and help is on hand if required I would certainly recommend these facities to any photographers

An hour`s shoot at Martin`s studio - extremely enjoyable, and productive. The studio is spacious, fully equipped and with a range of fascinating props; Martin is endlessly helpful, a mine of useful information, supplying all the help and guidance one could wish for, but fading gently into the background as necessary.
I now have well over two hundred pictures of the stunning Louise (louise22 on Purestorm) to sift through - but thanks to the cheerful professionalism of all parties, very few duds!

I am currently having tuition under Martin, and all I can say is that he is simply excellent. If you have any doubts that you are not fulfilling your potential, book a session with Martin and you will not be disappointed......Money well spent.
