Michael Bacon
I am an enthusiastic and dedicated peripatetic cello teacher with experience in orchestral, ensemble and individual educational settings. I encourage my students to become musically independent by constantly broadening their imaginations and skill base, helping them to develop a unique musical voice.
I have been teaching for over seven years within institutions such as Guildhall Junior Department, Centre for Young Musicians, King's School Rochester, Lambeth Music Service, King Solomon Academy Colourstrings Cello Teacher and Kent Music. I have taught complete beginners to Grade 8+ and from ages 6 to 70.
I study methods such as Colourstrings, Dalcroze and Kodály and adapt them to suit each individual student. I also draw upon past lessons from wonderful teachers such as Sue Lowe, William Bruce, Matthew Sharp and Kwesi Edman. I use my own continuous studies to bring together exciting and creative lessons for each student. The more strands and ideas that I can draw upon to inspire students, the better!
I am passionate about bringing musicians together to learn from each other and enjoy playing together. I have taught at Oxford Cello School, Cello Love and East Kent Music Summer Course. I regularly run student workshops and concerts, creating a lively community for sharing and learning.
Alongside teaching, I perform regularly within a wide range of genres including classical, folk, theatre and pop music. This allows me to learn further and pass on my experiences to students and share my love and enthusiasm for cello playing.
