I set up Cycling Now as a way of promoting safe cycling for all ages, through good training. Wanting to improve conformance and reduce cycling related casualties in and around Swindon.
Working as a trained Cycling Proficiency Instructor for Swindon BC for 14 years and last year trained as a National Cycling Standard Instructor delivering Bikeability courses for Wiltshire CC.
Cycling Now as a Bikeability Provider and deliver Bikeability and National Cycling Standard courses to schools, colleges and individuals. I work with the CTC Cycling Community Officer for Swindon on projects and I am the chairperson for the Swindon Bike Users Group.
Cycling Now is governed by the procedures set out by the Cycling Training Board.

Now for the Terms and Conditions. There sound very official and impersonal, but there are here for your protection and mine. There give you the foundations, if you like of how we are going to do business and what we will expect.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS for cycling training:-

Safety

1. All cycle instruction will be conducted by an accredited National Standard Instructor with an up today Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), enhanced disclosure certificate.
2. Any helpers who do not hold a CRB enhanced disclosure certificate will be fully supervised by the cycling instructor.
3. All students will be issued with aluminous tabard.
4. Instructor and any helpers will wear aluminous tabard.
5. The cycling instruction will be performed at on and off road areas that have been risk assessed by the instructor.
6. All students under the age of 16 will wear a cycle helmet to the required UK/European standard which fits correctly and is in good condition.
7. If the person under the age of 16 refuses to wear a cycle helmet the instructor and Cycling Now accept no responsibility whatsoever for their actions, in the event of an accident and shall deem themselves to have been indemnified by any parent/guardian not insisting their child wears a cycling helmet.
8. All students are advised to wear appropriate clothing. In the event of wet weather space clothes an advised to be bought by the student. In cold weather additional warm clothes and gloves are advised.
9. If the instructor feels the appropriate clothes are not worn, they may ask the student to stop the course and if under 16 arrange for them to be picked up.
10. The permission slip for people under the age of 16 must be signed and handed to the instructor before the course starts. The instruction can not continue without it as insurance would be void.
11. It’s the Parents/Guardians responsibility to ensure the bike of the student under the age of 16 is road worthy. The instruction can not continue until all faults have been rectified.
12. It is the responsibility of the parents/guardian and/or the school to advise Cycling Now of any medical conditions or learning disabilities that might require the student to be given special attention
13. If a person under the age of 16 leaves the supervision of the instructor the Parents/Guardians will be informed immediately by the instructor.

The Instruction
14. Instruction will be given with enthusiasm and dedication for the teaching of safe, enjoyable cycling for the student.
15. The student will, at all times be treated with respect and a clear understanding of their opinions and abilities.
16. All training instructors will be trained to the National Cycling Standard.
17. All training instructors will have an accredited instructor’s provisional or full National Cycling Standard Instructors licence.
18. Instructors will be mentored from time to time on courses by a National Cycling Standard Training provider.
19. The instructors will have had good experience in teaching children and adults.
20. There will be some homework that is required to be completed be for end of the course.
21. Maximum number of students for a level 2 course is 6 per instructor.
22. In schools and establishments it is the responsibility of the head teacher or group leader to provide a helper for level 2 courses. This is to prevent a great then 4:1 ratio between student and teacher.
23. On completion of the course a certificate will be issued to say the student has completed the course
24. A Monitoring form will be issued to each student at the end of the course showing their progress and abilities.
25. The completion of the course does not mean students up to the age of 16 are entitled or endorsed to ride on the roads without further parental assessment and consent.

The money bit.
26. A payment of 50% of the course fee must be paid within 7 days (one calendar week) of a phone/web/letter booking.
27. If a cancellation is made before 21 days (four calendar weeks) of the start of the course and full refund in given.
28. If a cancellation is made between 14 and 20 days before the start of the course then 50% of the deposit/course fee will be returned. This is due to costs incurred.
29. If a cancellation is made less then 14 days before the start of the course there will be no refund. This is due to more incurred costs and the difficulty in filling the place on the course.
30. The balance of the course fees must be paid to the instructor prior to the start of the course. The instruction can not go ahead without the full payment.
31. If a student is ill and this can certificated, the student can join another course without incurring any other costs.
32. If a student misses a session of the course because their bike is faulty then they will forfeit their fee and not be allowed to continue.
33. If a student is asked to leave or leaves the course for no other reason then the course was not suitable will not receive a refund.
