Nick Martin
I am a recovering chartered accountant, having worked for one of the major international firms for about nine years in London and Paris.
Since 1994, I have been working in training and development. I spent four years working for Outward Bound in Scotland and the Lake District, delivering team building and leadership courses using the outdoors. I still love the outdoors, but most of my corporate training is now indoor based.
I have an MSc in Management Development and Training from the University of Bristol. This is what started me on the path of my own development - a path that I have continued in various ways ever since. For example, I have trained and certified as a coach with the Coaches Training Institute. I have also trained as a relationship and systems coach, which gives me skills to work with couples and teams, as well as with individuals.
I have a coaching practice, working with individuals who are looking for more in their lives - more fulfilment, more engagement, more enthusiasm, more fun that is, rather than more "stuff". Whether I am working with business people or with other clients, I take a holistic view of their lives in our coaching work together. I weave my love of the outdoors into my coaching by - whenever possible - taking new clients for a walk for our first session together. This could be in the Malvern Hills (which I can see from my office window), or in St. James's Park in London, or wherever is most convenient for the client.
As a trainer and facilitator, I deliver courses in the "soft" skills of business - leadership, effective teamworking, influencing etc. I am accredited to use a number of psychometric instruments and 360 degree feedback tools, which I use both in these courses and with individuals. I am also accredited to use a team diagnostic assessment.
I am a member of the steering group of Transition Malvern Hills. The Transition movemement looks at how we can address the twin challenges of climate change and peak oil, and Malvern is one of a growing number of communities around the world with a Transition group. One of the features of the Transition concept that I find most fascinating is that it addresses both outer change (the things that we will have to start doing differently) and inner change (the personal inner transition that we experience - the "being" as opposed to the "doing" of change). I see my work with teams and individuals as supporting and contributing to the inner change.
One-to-one lessons
Group Classes
Nia Workshop
Nia is an exercise and movement form that integrates mind, body, and spirit. We will spend time exploring some of the ideas underpinning Nia, practicing some of the basic moves, and will end with a one-hour routine.
It will be as dynamic or as gentle as you want - you choose.
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes.
As well as the classes on Saturdays, I practice a couple of afternoons during the week. You are welcome to come and join in! (£4)
Team coaching
As a team coach, I use a systems approach. This means that I work with the team as a whole system, rather than focusing on the individuals who make up the team. The idea behind this is that everybody in the team is contributing to everything that is going on in the team.
I am passionate about helping teams to understand the processes that they are using, and how they can change those processes in order to improve the functioning of the group and of the relationshipas within the group.
As with my one-to-one coaching, for Transition groups I offer a discount on my normal rates for team coaching.
