Am a scientist (Ph.D. Cell and Developmental Biologist) with much experience in academia.

More importantly, We also are building our backyard homestead - visit our garden blog to learn deep details about that at http://www.humblegarden.com.

I am interested in sharing my experience as a non-farmer who has self-taught various important food self-sufficiency skills.

I think we all have something to learn and something to teach.

If you are interested in growing your own organic food, raising your own healthy chickens and dairy goats, you may be interested in the topics I will be teaching.

I will also be teaching things like how to preserve your bounty, how to transition from our toxic foodways to honest simple foodways that build your body back to health.

Other topics will even include growing mushrooms and growing vegetables in concert with mycorrhizal fungal species.

Group Classes

LEARN HOW TO GROW YOUR OWN MUSHROOMS!

In this workshop you will learn by hands on experience how to grow mushrooms in your own backyard on logs that you might otherwise think of as waste wood!

We will gain a working knowledge of mushrooms, their life cycle, and some of their uses.

We will learn about tree/log selection, log drilling, plugging, sealing, and cultivation conditions.

The types of mushrooms that we will be spawning in the course will be: Oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus), Shiitake (Lentinula edodes), and Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum).

These mushrooms can be hard to find fresh in the store and can be expensive. With skills learned in this workshop, you will be on your way to growing a wide range of mushrooms with very little work or fuss.

If you would like to take home an innoculated log after the class, please bring a (hardwood, like oak), no longer than 3 feet long.
