Persephone is a North West Morris side who performs across the country, mostly during the summer months but also into autumn and winter too. The side comprises women dancers but both men and women play in the band. Wearing green and yellow kits and clogs with bells on, accompanied by a band of melodians, other instruments and drums, the side is easily noticed in a crowd!

We aim to dance to high standards for appreciative audiences and we pride ourselves on performance, precision and presentation. During the dancing out season we meet teams from all styles of the Morris and many of these are friends that we see again and again at different venues - very much an extended family. We do a mixture of day events, often within easy reach of home, and weekends of dance and folk festivals where we travel further away. At these weekends we generally camp or caravan (despite the odd bit of rain!), and enjoy not only the dancing out in new places but the companionship, fun and laughter that makes up the whole weekend.

Having just completed our 30th year of dancing, we look forward to the continuing future of the side, and so are always on the lookout for new members either as dancers or musicians. We teach dancing within the side - several members taking turns to teach various dances, but all members willing to help beginners through the early stages; we regard everything as a team effort. You may be 15 or 50 (or even a bit more!), but as long as you're fit and healthy there's no reason why you shouldn't give dnacing a try! If you're a musician our friendly band would be happy to guide you though the dots (mostly, but not exclusively, British traditional tunes).

We don't often run workshops (except when asked at festivals), but anyone is welcome to come to practice any Tuesday evening to see what it's all about.

Practice is:

Tuesday evening, 7.30pm - 9.30pm weekly
Hunsworth Community Centre,
Green Lane,
Nr Cleckheaton
West Yorkshire
(half a mile from M62 junction 26, Chain Bar)
