Sarah Garrish
Sarah Swirled Belly Dance is a small local company based in Preston. The company was established in 2009 after the owner (Sarah!), had obtained a JWAAD Safe Delivery of Belly Dance Classes, which is accredited by the OCNNER and equal to an 'A' level. However, it wasn't until 2010 after Sarah moved her weekly classes to Penwortham, a much larger catchment area than the one she previously taught in, that the business started to be established.
Sadly, in 2019, the class in Penwortham dwindled and Sarah ended up having to fold, much to her disappointment. However, in December that same year she was invited to teach classes at MPower Yoga Studio in Leyland, which she agreed to. This has, so far, proven to be a good move.
Sarah believes that to become a better teacher, you need to continue to develop yourself as well as others, and so she continues to develop herself by taking part in performance projects and attending workshops around the country. She is signed onto the Personal Development Course through JWAAD (Josephine Wise Academy of Arabic Dance).

Weekly Beginners Classes
My weekly dance classes are designed for mixed abilities, whether you are new to belly dance or have some experience already. I cater my classes for who attends, so you can be sure in the knowledge that you won't be left behind.
I am currently on summer hours but my weekly classes will resume in September as follows:
Wednesday 14th September - Wednesday 19th October
6pm - 7pm
7.10pm - 8.10pm
8.30pm - 9.30pm
I am asking that all students book six lessons in advance as class numbers are limited. The cost is £35 for 6 classes.
Booking can be done via my website: www.sarahswirledbellydance.com
Please note: If you would like to attend classes but you know in advance that you are unable to make all six, please get in touch and I can adjust the price accordingly.
Summer Workshops 2022
I am currently offering two summer workshops which are open to anybody (no previous experience required). The workshops are designed to be FUN, and learning something new.
17th August - finger cymbals
Usually associated with shamadan (a candelabra balanced on the head and used for weddings), in this workshop I will be teaching how to play the finger cymbals at the same time as moving (even dancing!). prepare for some noise!
31st August - Melaya
This is a character dance based on traditional Alexandrian dance and brought to the stage in the 1960's. Bring out the inner flirt!
Booking i required in advance and may be done via my website: https://www.sarahswirledbellydance.com/summer-workshops-2022.html
Experience
Relevant Experience
I am always trying to improve my own dancing ability by attending workshops and belly dance events whenever possible.
I have also taken and passed the JWAAD Foundation in Safe Teaching course which explores Anatomy, Health and Safety, Safe Warm Ups, Lesson Planning, etc.
I am also a member of the JTA (JWAAD Teachers' Association), an organisation which has been established to promote the highest standards in belly dance, the high quality teaching of the dance, and to encourage its members to excel in providing their students with a safe and inspirational learning experience.
