I am a qualified school teacher and have taught in schools for many years. I have taught piano privately from home for the last 15 years.
I take beginners, intermediate and advanced students, children and adults.

I am able to offer tuition in piano, keyboard and music theory.
I absolutely love what I do and my aim is to impart that love to my pupils.

I've had pupils go on to study music at universities, I've helped students gain success in theory entrance exams for degree courses and for some of the top London music schools. I've had many, many pupils successfully pass exams, many with distinctions, at all levels from beginner to advanced. I've had pupils come to me just for specific help with A level recital work or GCSE tuition, pupils who learn another instrument and need specialised theory help, and most of all piano and keyboard pupils who have stayed with me for many years. I hope that I have imparted a love of music and a real enjoyment of playing to all those I have taught.

I have many pupils who take exams, and plenty of others who prefer not to. I believe strongly that lessons should be tailored to the individual, and not everybody wants the same thing. I have pupils of 6 and pupils of over 80 and I like to think I am friendly and approachable, whatever your age and ambitions.

I teach at home just north of Chichester during daytimes, after school, and during the evenings on Mondays - Thursdays.

I also tutor maths, from all levels from Year 1 to GCSE. I run a group GCSE maths group which is extremely popular (and it's fun!) but also offer private tuition.

I have worked extensively as a children's chaperone and have children of my osn, now in their mid and late teens. I taught in Primary and middle schools as a class teacher for some years so have experience of all age groups. I hold an enhanced CRB which you are welcome to see.

Group Classes

GCSE maths

Aimed at Years 10 and 11 but also open to adults and home educated children - I can put you in touch with an exam centre (note the GCSE itself costs extra if you are not at school being entered by them).

I've been running this group for some while now and it's an enjoyable and efficient way to improve your predicted grade. Pupils are always sad when it finishes and have in the past been pleased with both their maths results and the confidence they have gained.

This class is aimed at those taking Higher GCSE; I can run a foundation class if there is sufficient interest. Even though Year 10s will be doing the new 1-9 syllabus, the content of this will still be useful to you (and we will move on to the new spec once the GCSE is obsolete).

I keep the group small so this class has filled up extremely quickly in past years! Therefore because there is always a waiting list I do ask people to commit to and pay for 6 week half- term blocks.

Grade 5 theory of music

This class works towards Grade 5 theory of music. Aimed mainly at those who already have a basic theory knowledge (eg can read music in at least one clef, understand basic time values, have played some scales) but I'm happy to have complete beginners If you are happy to do extra catch up work.
The lessons are small group classes in a friendly and confidence building environment. Grade 5 theory is needed before taking Grade 6 ABRSM practical exams and also really helps in the understanding of practical music.
Exam entries are made three times a year as soon as pupils are ready. You don't have to do work at home until you've been entered for the exam, though you will be ready to take it sooner if you do!
After this many pupils go on to my advanced theory class.
