I teach recorder, violin and music theory. I have a music degree and many years of experience of teaching students of all ages - both on a one-to-one level and in small groups. I also hold a number of diplomas in recorder performance as well as a Fellowship in Music Education.

Since moving to Nottinghamshire, I have started building a new teaching practice – teaching mostly in my own home. I currently have a number of individual students ranging from 7 to 70 years of age and who travel from locations across the East Midlands.

Never too late!
I love teaching students of all ages – especially adult late-starters! It’s never too late to start learning an instrument and it can open up a whole new world of enjoyment. Maybe you played a little when you were at school and think you have forgotten it all – it’s amazing how quickly it comes back to you!

What do I need?
Students will need to have their own instruments. If you are not sure which size of violin to buy, we can discuss it at your first lesson. You will have the opportunity to try out different sizes and to learn a few notes. Where appropriate, we will also discuss a suitable tutor book for you. Don’t worry if you can’t read music yet – you will learn that along the way.

Hopefully, lessons will always be positive and encouraging. Over the years, I have come across most teaching and learning situations and hope to be able to deal with them with patience and good humour. Music is meant to be fun so a lesson should aim leave you in good spirits.

Many students like the challenge of working towards the graded examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and have taken these with great success. Some also participate in local music festivals as additional performance opportunities. For others, the challenge is to reach a standard where they can play the music they love – or to join an ensemble where they can play with others.
