Steve Potter

I am an American composer-pianist based in East Dulwich, London. Originally from northern California, I came to London 12 years ago to do a PhD, which I earned in April 2011, and happily have stayed.

I provide piano, theory and composition lessons at all levels, for children (age 5 and up) and adults. For beginner piano students I emphasize learning by ear over reading music. Piano lessons are an opportunity to learn poise and focus in an enjoyable way, in addition to learning pieces and techniques.

I have 23 years of experience as accompanist/coach, and I have tutored music theory & composition over many years at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Cornell University, Goldsmiths (University of London), Amherst College (USA), University of Sussex, and King's College London, as well as privately.
