I have always been passionate about the hot forging of metal. It is an amazing thing that a material so hard can be formed so exactly and artistically. The ability to forge steel has been fundamental in mans development.
The courses concentrate on hand work with a lot of time spent with a hammer over the anvil. I am not however, adverse to the use of modern methods and tools where appropriate. I have made sure that there are both coke forges and gas forges, so as to give the opportunity of trying both.
I approach the subject of Bladesmithing and Knife-making in a very contemporary manner and intend to add a current perspective to creating man’s oldest tool. The courses are run using appropriate carbon steels (no using up of old files here!). There is a grinding room for the grinding of blades as well as up to date heat-treating facilities.

The first day and a half is spent forgewelding. 1095 and 15N20 steel is used. You will draw out the steel, twisting and jellyrolling to create a desired pattern.
The next day and a half you will either make a knife or an axe.

Learn to make a viking style sword using 1045 steel. This will be handforged using a propane gas forge. The first day will be drawing the sword out. Each day lasts 6 hours.

Spend two days at my forge learning to forge a 1055 steel rustic knife by hand and then put an antler handle or wooden on the tang which makes it a hidden tang or full tang. You wil make a sheath need steel toe cap boots or strong leather boots.
