I am a freelance teacher and flautist, with over 13 years' experience as a teacher.

I studied for my undergraduate and Masters degrees at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.

I have a varied musical background which transfers through to my lessons. I focus on the individual, and am keen students become well-rounded musicians.

I have 13 years' experience teaching for:

* Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Junior Conservatoire - Tutor of flute and descant recorder. Also chamber music coaching, and music theory tutor.

* Gwent Music Support Service - Woodwind Peripatetic Tutor.

* Cardiff and the Vale Music Service - Woodwind Peripatetic Tutor.

* Over 15 years' experience of tutoring privately.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach a range of students, ranging in age from 5 years to 75. Students learn for a variety of reasons; some purely for fun, others to also pass graded examinations. For those who would like to study for exams, I use both the Associated Board and Trinity Guildhall syllabi.

Lessons always include ensemble work, improvisation, and a focus on developing aural and sight reading skills continuously.

I also teach music theory throughout all her lessons, helping students who wish to sit the ABRSM Grade V music theory exam. I have other students, however, who visit solely for music theory lessons - please just contact me if you would like to discuss this option.

I also have taught a number of adult learners. Their motivation for taking lessons is varied - some played the flute a little whilst younger and find they want to return to the instrument. Others have no previous musical experience whatsoever, but have always wanted to play. In either case, I am mindful of the needs of adult learners, and work with the students to devise a plan of work that is guided by their musical tastes and aims.

Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (2002) - B Mus (hons) (Bachelors)
