My name is Viara.
I'm a professional singer, an experienced singing teacher and a vocal coach, based in Glasgow. I'm also a touring singer-songwriter and a recent graduate from the BA(Hons) Applied music course at the University of Strathclyde. I teach from absolute beginners to advanced students, usually starting from age 10+. Most people, especially when looking for a vocal teacher for the first time, are not really sure what to ask and where to look, so here's what you'll get from your lessons with me...
VOCAL LESSONS Your lessons will focus on you gaining a better understanding of how your voice works. In addition to the vocal lessons, you'll get a set of exercises designed for your voice specifically, that you can use as your practice routine, so you can fully benefit from your singing lessons with me. With regular practice you'll manage to
*smooth out breaks in your voice
*improve your intonation and phrasing
*ease out any strain you might feel when singing (those high notes!)
*feel more confident and enjoy singing
*get the best of your voice when auditioning, on stage or in the studio
*learn to sing with a backing track, with guitar/piano accompaniment and a cappella
MUSIC THEORY, ROCK SCHOOL EXAMS, HIGHERS I teach music theory as well, and have prepared pupils for their Rock School Vocal exams, so get in touch if you need some help with passing exams or auditions.
SKYPE LESSONS Off on tour or away for longer periods of time? Not to worry! As a touring musician myself I find Skype to be a great tool to keep in touch with students, colleagues, business partners and, of course, family. All you need is a reliable internet connection, a decent computer and a mic.
SINGER-SONGWRITERS I often work with singer-songwriters on polishing their songs. We spend time analyzing their songwriting process and we look at the way they approach harmony and melody. We discuss subjects that range from style specific vocal production when in studio to looking after their voices when on tour.

TESTIMONIALS:

"I have been training with Viara for nearly 2 years now and it has been the most amazing fun. I had zero confidence when I started, but Viara has encouraged me and challenged me and I have now sung a solo with my choir in front of 300 people :) My voice has improved tremendously and even when we have hit the odd brick wall, Viara always finds a new exercise to get me moving forward again. She is a beautiful person and spending time with her is always a highlight in my day. She is so talented and singing with her is, to me, a real privilege. Gillian Thomson-Fitch"

"I took part in a Bulgarian singing workshop in Edinburgh. I found it very useful and really enjoyed it. I'm a classical singer, but the information was presented systematically – well structured, in a easy to understand way, even for non singers. The thing I found most useful was Viara's approach to the voice as an instrument, which was supported with the appropriate examples and references to other singing styles : pop, rock, soul and classical. Also I was impressed with her technical explanations of Bulgarian folk singing. The most enjoyable thing for me was the group singing part, I think everybody enjoyed it, even the non singers. I recommend the workshop, I think it will be also be very useful to people who'd like to expand their general knowledge and singing technique. Lozinka Gergova, classical singer"

"Although to me they are challenging, I am really enjoying my lessons with Viara. I was very apprehensive at first, but Viara's easy and friendly manner has put me at ease, and helped push me out of my comfort zone. I can see improvement even after only three lessons. If like me, you love music, and are looking for a teacher, then Viara's enthusiasm for,and obvious love of music, makes her a great choice for a teacher. John Nicol "
