Simon McEnery
Simon McEnery (MA, AGSM) has been teaching singing for fifteen years. He teaches at his home in Salisbury Cathedral Close and has students who range from the professional to members of local choral societies or local bands and, in particular, young students intending to audition for music, drama and music theatre colleges. Former students have auditioned successfully at Mountview, ArtsEd, GSA, London Studio Centre, Italia Conti, London School of Music Theatre, Bird and VocalTech, as well as obtaining choral scholarships at Oxbridge.
His teaching focuses on the importance of developing a sound technique based on an awareness of the various physical qualities associated with good singing. These include efficient breathing and support, the specifics of the vocal mechanism and the safe projection of different registers and vocal styles through good practice. He considers performance technique to be of primary importance. He has studied Jo Estill's Figures for Voice (levels one and two) but also uses aspect of speech level singing in his teaching method. As a rule, he teaches students no younger than sixteen. He is happy to prepare students for ABRSM and TVU/LCM exams.
He also teaches music theory and coaches for GCSE and A level music.

Experience
Simon McEnery MA AGSM
I studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, and also gained a masters degree in musicology at Southampton. As a singer I have worked with WNO, Frankfurt Opera, Nancy Opera, Chatelet Opera Paris, De Vlaamse Opera Antwerp, Garsington Opera, Grange Park Opera and with Raymond Gubbay. As a composer I have written a number of works, particularly choral pieces, especially for Salisbury Cathedral Choir. 'The Resurrection', an oratorio, is released on Priory Records. I have been teaching for around fifteen years, and currently have somewhere in the region of fifty students.
