Private Teaching

Simon McEnery MA AGSM

I teach from home in Salisbury Cathedral Close, near to the National Trust's Mompesson House.
My teaching revolves around a sound technique, physiologically based, drawing on Shiatsu and Alexander techniques as well as a more traditional bel canto technique.
My music theatre students are encouraged to focus on speech-singing and other contemporary MT disciplines.
I firmly believe everyone can sing; my teaching methods are primarily inclusive and open-minded. My only expectations of students are a similar open-mindedness and a willingness to work a bit.

Experience

Simon McEnery MA AGSM

I studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, and also gained a masters degree in musicology at Southampton. As a singer I have worked with WNO, Frankfurt Opera, Nancy Opera, Chatelet Opera Paris, De Vlaamse Opera Antwerp, Garsington Opera, Grange Park Opera and with Raymond Gubbay. As a composer I have written a number of works, particularly choral pieces, especially for Salisbury Cathedral Choir. 'The Resurrection', an oratorio, is released on Priory Records. I have been teaching for around fifteen years, and currently have somewhere in the region of fifty students.
