Top tips

Photo

What do you look like?

Perhaps most important is to put a good picture on your profile. It makes it 5 times more likely that people will click on your profile. That's a good start isn't it?

About you

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Don't give your life story but filling in this section on your learning profile helps teachers understand your learning needs.

Location

Where are you?

Setting your location is very important. Make it as local as possible because all search results are sorted by location first. This is important for cities such as London.

Subjects

What do you want to learn?

Choose the simplest way of explaining the subject you want to learn. When adding subjects to your learning profile it is better to add them separately. i.e. 'French'; 'Spanish' rather than 'French and Spanish' We now automatically show related teachers and subjects (ask Russell from Team Everything about Matchy Matchy).

Messaging

Keep in touch.

There are a number of ways for you to contact teachers through School of Everything so make sure you're set up for them all. What about using Skype to learn online?

Helpful stuff

How do I create a learning profile?

By creating an account on the site, you're automatically given an empty learning profile. Edit it to add a photo, more information and other things about yourself as a learner. You can also add subjects you want to learn using the "subjects I'm learning" box at the bottom of your profile.

How do I know if a teacher is any good?

We don't vet the people who sign up to teach with us, but we do encourage people to say lots about their experience and qualifications, so you can make an informed decision. Use the same discretion as you would when answering an ad in a newspaper or a shop window. We also have reviews created by members so you can see what other people thought of the teacher.

Can I review teachers?

Yes you can. Have a little look at our reviews help page here.

How do I find teachers, lessons and courses near me?

Search for what you want to learn by using the subject and location search boxes. For example if you search for 'Yoga' in 'London', 'Painting' in 'Sheffield' or similar you will be shown things tagged with that subject in that area. You can then browse within these results. Also make sure your location is set correctly - then you'll see local content when you're logged in.

How do contact a teacher or organisation?

All you need to do is click on the 'Make an enquiry' button on their profile.

I can’t find anyone teaching in my area, what should I do?

School of Everything is growing fast, but it's still early days. Don't give up! If you can't find a teacher in your area, add that subject to your learning profile and you'll receive notifications when someone new creates a profile for that subject in your area. They'll also then be able to see that you want to learn this subject and may contact you.

Can I gain a professional or recognised qualification from any of the courses on offer?

Yes - for example, many courses offer tuition towards A levels or other qualifications. But we don't offer special School of Everything qualifications, or insist that people have or take any qualifications. It's up to you.

Are there any classes or courses for those with learning difficulties?

Yes - many people with teaching profiles on School of Everything have experience with and offer tailored services to people with learning difficulties. It's still best to ask them directly though and find out exactly what kinds of services they can provide to meet your needs.

Are people with physical disabilities able to attend classes?

People organise classes to their own standards and many use facilities adapted to those with physical disabilities. Contact the teacher or course organiser for more information.

Are your teachers qualified?

We don't pass judgement on whether people are qualified to teach their subjects. Some subjects have no formal exams or qualifications, so School of Everything doesn't restrict teaching profiles to those with qualifications and some may simply be experts from the 'university of life'.

How do I edit my learning profile?

If you're not happy with your profile you can edit it at any time, it's easy - just log in and click on the little orange 'Edit' button on your profile page and edit away.
