Yoga Therapy
Yoga therapy is an holistic approach to treating physical and emotional ailments. The practice incorporates yoga’s ancient system of healing with modern medicine.
Yoga therapy tailors yoga practices according to the specific ailment and the physical and emotional needs of the individual. It can be practised in conjunction with medical treatments and in tandem with other complementary therapies.
Yoga therapy consists of a combination of:
Physical postures: Simple yoga postures gently stretch and strengthen muscles, improving mobility, flexibility, respiration, circulation, digestion and elimination. Moving into and holding these postures encourages removes energy blockages that canlead to ill-health and thus promote a general sense of well being.
Breathing techniques: Awareness of the breath is central to all forms of yoga and promotes calmness, focuses the mind, and relieves stress and mental fatigue. Yoga breathing exercises can be practiced anywhere and at any time.
Relaxation methods: Learning how to relax is a central element of yoga and yoga therapy. Relaxation is the body’s way of recharging and rejuvenating and helps to ease physical and mental tension. Techniques for proper relaxation encourage us to step back and look objectively at our habitual patterns of behaviour and help us to cope better with life challenges and situations that put our body and mind under strain.
