Fotosynthesis Community
Fotosynthesis is a community project that runs photography workshops for marginalised communities in South London running a community darkroom and studio facilities.
We are an international and multilingual group of professional photographers and community workers with seven years experience in facilitating participatory arts/media projects.
We aim at keeping traditional photography alive, make photography accessible and affordable to anyone, give a voice to marginalised groups using participatory methods, experiment with the arts in a safe and stimulating environment and give leadership , educational and life skills.
Our aim is to build confidence, engender social cohesion and provide a platform for self-expression for people that would of otherwise not had such an opportunity to engage with photography and other creative media.
We believe in the social utility of art and we offer a supportive and inclusive environment where participants can develop new learning skills, discuss their ideas, and engage with each other and different communities in a dynamic and stimulating way. We are committed to social and cultural integration.
The participants are individuals whose access to educational and creative activities are limited and face certain prejudices and challenges within their communities such as refugees, asylum seekers and single parents.
We can deliver tailored workshops for children, young people, families, alternative printing processes, studio photography, memories and photostories, darkroom, pinhole, digital, advocacy, consultation, professional services for events, photoshoots, retouching, private courses and more.
