Ailsa considers watercolour the ideal medium to portray what she sees and feels, loving its immediacy, jewel-like colours, its fresh transparency and its unpredictable nature. With any painting it is important what you leave out, watercolour, with its innate way of reflecting light invites the onlooker to fill in the gaps.
Ailsa loves drawing and the way a single mark can tell so much. She has been able to draw from an early age and natural talent combined with 10 years working in a drawing office and figurative drawing in a life class, has ensured a sound ability to apply accurate drawing structure to her work which she considers essential before any colour is applied.
