I'm a City & Guilds qualified felt maker and qualified adult tutor. I've been making felt for about 8 years and like to teach all ages and a variety of techniques. My felt is sold through craft fairs and online. I also run monthly feltmaking workshops in Yorkshire.

Group Classes

Nuno, Cobweb and Lattice Felt Scarves

These are two separate workshops. The first looks at nuno and lamination techniques. Nuno is where the wool fibres and fabric and bonded together through the felting process - no stitching necessary!

It;'s a technique used to create fabulous floaty scarves from silk, silk chiffon and wool that still have a wonderful drape.

The second workshop looks at fine felt, known as cobweb, and lattice wool scarves. These scarves still have wonderful drape but are 100% wool, ideal for both special occasions and chillier days.

Felt Jewellery

A day spent looking at various wet and dry techniques for making a range of jewellery. Beginning with needlefelting we'll look at ways of creating beads of all shapes and 3D shapes e.g. hearts.

You will also learn wet felting techniques for jewellery with a range of beads, ropes and flowers. We will also cover adding light texture to your jewellery.

You'll come away with a couple of finished pieces and so many ideas for more.

Wall Hanging

A great workshop for beginners or the more experienced. There's lots of samples, demonstrations and design inspiration to get you started on producing a unique piece of wall art.

It covers the basics of feltmaking, colour blending using carders and various hidden and other methods for hanging your finished piece (or pieces).

Felt Vessel

This workshop will cover two methods for making 3D vases or vessels. Initially, you'll learn to felt around a resist then finish modelling the felt on a vase, which can either be left inside the felt so you can use it with flowers, or removed.

The second technique still uses a resist to begin the felting process but it's finished just by hand modelling and can be made to any shape you choose.

Felt Handbag

In this workshop you will make a pure wool seamless handbag with an integral handle. The bag is formed by felting around a resist and then modelling through rubbing and rolling.

If you're a more experienced feltmaker then you'll also learn how to add pockets and to explore new shapes of bag.

Experience

Felt and textiles

After 25 years in the corporate world I returned to my first love – textiles. Initially an embroiderer, I was shown how to make felt and have never looked back. My inspiration is the detail found in nature and I particularly love texture and combining wool with fabric in my work.

I’m a City and Guilds qualified feltmaker and a qualified adult tutor. I run monthly felt making workshops for and also deliver courses on behalf of other organisations, including:

Sedbergh Community Development Centre
Armley Mills adult workshops & family drop-in sessions
Ben Rhydding Primary School

I run an after school textile clun for 7-11 year olds teaching rag rugging, sewing, knitting and felt making.

I’m a member of: the Institute for Learning, International Feltmakers Association, Fabric (forum for the arts in Bradford) and the Knitting & Crochet Guild.
