Yoga for Pregnancy
During pregnancy, women often become more in touch with their bodies than at any other time during their lives. Practising Yoga can give you an opportunity to observe the changes your body is going through, to connect with your baby and to experience the benefits gentle exercise can afford. Yoga won’t necessarily make labour and birth easier, but it can give you the self-confidence to ‘go with’ your experiences, and strengthen your mind and body to be able to cope with whatever you may need to deal with during pregnancy, birth and motherhood. Pregnancy Yoga incorporates gentle movements and stretches to strengthen and open your body; breathing exercises to increase calm, focus and balance; and relaxation techniques to release deeply-held tensions and to promote the well-being of you and your baby.
You should be 14 weeks or more to join the class. Beginners are warmly welcomed – no previous Yoga practice is required; it is equally suitable for pregnant women who have practised before. The class is run on an on-going basis so you can join at any time; it offers an opportunity to meet with other pregnant women and share experiences. It is advisable to consult with your midwife or doctor before doing Yoga, particularly if you have experienced any difficulties during your pregnancy, or if you have any significant medical condition that may be affected by Yoga practices.
