Charlotte Kennedy
Having played the violin since the age of five, I am a versatile performer who has taken influence from a wide range of genres, including folk, classical, Indian classical, pop, jazz and bluegrass. I recently graduated with First Class Honours in Music from Durham University. I have previously studied classical violin with Julia Jasinski and Iona Brown and folk music with Stewart Hardy and Kathryn Tickell, as well as improvisation at Sage Gateshead's Weekend School (where I was also a member of Young Sinfonia and Folkestra), having been awarded various scholarships enabling me to do so. I have played with a wide range of musical ensembles, including the recently formed Northern Company, winners of the prestigious Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections 2016.
I believe it is very important to ensure that students leave each lesson feeling inspired and encouraged to practice and consequently realise their full potential. I take time to find out exactly what each individual pupil wants out of their lessons, and I then develop a personalised plan including lesson and practice objectives. I also aim to place an emphasis on developing aural and improvisation skills through playing the violin, as I believe these skills are key to developing all-round musicianship, allowing for creative self-expression.
I am fully DBS checked, and am happy to teach all levels of ability.
