Introduction to Bushcraft
Upon your arrival on Saturday you will be greeted by your bush craft instructor who will look after you throughout the weekend and a cup of tea or coffee. After the introductions you will then head out into the 3 acres of ground at Rippledown and learn about the management, location and safety of camp fires. This will be followed up by the sourcing of natural tinder and fuels, fire lays and their effectiveness, starting a camp fire with a bow drill set and other methods of firelighting.
After a fantastic home prepared lunch the safety of woodland hand tools will be explained. The instructors will also talk about the maintenance and storage of these tools. All of these tools will be provided so you don’t have to bring any of your own. Having done this wood carving is next on the list. You will be able to make your own unique wooden spoon and mallet.
The days activities will be followed up by a hearty home cooked lunch then a trip to the camp fire in Rippledown’s grounds.
On Sunday you start with a hearty breakfast that will keep you going whilst you work on some shelter building. You will be making a debris shelter and upon completing this you will be able to learn how to improve these shelters by learning a series of great new knots which can be used to help you erect tarps and hammocks.
After your second home made lunch you will be able to look at game preparation, camp fire cooking and then a wild food foray.
