Chris Murphy
I am a professional musician and music teacher with 36 years international experience of teaching music to students of all ages and levels of ability. I have taught music in a wide variety of educational contexts from specialist music schools in Scandinavia and the Arabian Gulf and UK local authority music services, as well as in mainstream schools, colleges and universities.
I have maintained a 100% pass rate in all practical examinations since 1975 with over 70% of my students gaining passes with merit and distinction. I am fully, and regularly, CRB checked through enhanced disclosure for working in schools.I am also a full member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
I teach a range of styles including jazz improvisation, classical and pop. I believe in cultivating my students as well rounded and versatile musicians (rather than just instrumentalist) with emphasis on aural development, reading skills as well as the ability to play by ear and improvise creatively.
