I am a teacher and performer
of the Zimbabwean mbira, taught by
mbira player and lecturer Chartwell
Dutiro.

I live in Brighton where I play
solo and also as part of folk/pop quintet
The Beautiful Word.

(Listen at www.thebeautifulword.co.uk)

I am available to teach mbira individually,
in a workshop environment or at festivals. Festival
experience includes African Drum Village (Glen Isla)
and Rhythm and Grooves (Hebden Bridge).

About the Mbira

The mbira is a sacred instrument of Zimbabwe,
played by striking the thumbs upon metal keys.

The mbira can be soothing, meditative and
very much unintrusive. When played in an ensemble
however, or at a traditional ceremony (known as a
bira) mbira music can be one of the most uplifting,
rhythmic sounds around.
