TEACHING EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
I am a violin teacher based in the North East of England with 12 years experience of one to one tuition, as well as group tuition and a variety of music education work for local authorities, colleges and ensembles. I have a teaching diploma (LTCL) which is a professional qualification specifically in violin teaching; a BA in Music (1st class) and a Masters of Music in Performance and Composition. Whilst at university in Newcastle I studied with violin teachers from the Royal Scottish Academy.
PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE
As well as teaching I am also an active performer in a variety of styles which I hope helps to keep my teaching fresh and allows me to pass on performance skills and experience. I currently perform regularly with a string quartet, jazz quartet ), ceilidh band, Blue Horizon Country band, and jazz duo as well as doing session work for various other groups.
TEACHING STYLE
I always try to take my pupils goals and aspirations as the starting point for my teaching. This might mean working towards an ABRSM Grade exam, or it may be to develop technical skills that allow the student simply to enjoy playing for fun. I am equally happy to teach children and adults, from absolute beginners to diploma standard.
