Erin James
I studied at Birmingham Conservatoire obtaining a music degree with honours in 2001. Since then I have taught privately and for Birmingham Music Service, Dudley Performing Arts, Midlands Arts Centre, Repton Summer School and the Oxford Cello School (for whom I am the Head of the Junior Course).
I teach: cello - all levels (Beginner to Degree)
Double Bass - up to Grade 3
Non-Pedal Harp - up to Grade 3
Piano - up to Grade 6
Theory - up to Grade 6
I teach all ages (children & adults) but specialise in young starters aged 3-10 using the Colourstrings Method, based on Kodaly methods. This includes fun games, singing, composition, transposition and note writing. I also use Suzuki technique and practise methods.
With all ages I like to use duets and improvisation, but I'm happy to tailor the sessions to suite the pupils interests.
I trained as an orchestral cellist, but have also worked in a duo performing for wedding in a wide variety of style and played in a folk-pop band.
I also do pre-school music and Colourstrings musicianship classes.
