Continuing Portrait Sculpture with Hazel Reeves
This course seeks to further hone the ability to see and understand the structure of the head and the underlying skull, and to translate this understanding into clay. Modeling from a live sitter will be complemented by exercises - with clay and without - and individualised tuition. Building upon the introductory course, it is suitable for anyone who has sculpted at least one portrait in clay, as well as those with extensive experience.
Portrait sculpture with Hazel Reeves
Learn how to observe heads and translate this understanding into a sculpture that captures the likeness of a sitter. Over five days a life-size clay portrait of a live model will be constructed on an armature and prepared for firing. The concentrated modeling sessions will be interspersed with exercises to train the eye and hand. Suitable for those with experience of sculpting in clay as well as beginners.
Portrait Sculpture – 5-day Summer School
Have you ever wanted to capture someone’s face or expression in a sculpture? Working a portrait in clay is a really rewarding experience. Why don’t you join us as we explore portrait sculpture over five days. On the first day we will start by examining the model and exploring the structure of the head, building a small portrait in clay. This learning will then be used to start the development of a life-size portrait on an armature. We will continue to work on this with the model for three and a half days. The final afternoon will be spent hollowing-out the portrait in readiness for firing. This course will be taught in a way suitable for all levels of experience – from beginners to the advanced.
Tutor: Hazel Reeves SWA FRSA undertakes portrait commissions, exhibits in London and the South of England, and is an experienced tutor (see www.wiredandfired.co.uk).
