Ian MacDonald
I have been working with voice and performance for over two decades focusing on areas of performance research and pedagogy, clinical care, performing arts medicine and education. As senior clinician responsible for performers’ vocal health assessments for the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine for over 15 years I gained invaluable experience into the care and rehabilitation of the performing artists and the professional voice user. I developed my clinical education skills when, with a prestigious team of experts, we created the world’s first MSc in Performing Arts Medicine. Now in its 5th successful year based at University College London, with modules taught at the Royal College of Music, Trinity Conservatoire of Music and Dance and the Institute of Sports and Exercise Medicine. My clinical and teaching experience have been informed by my performance background of 30 years and brief stints as a director and 20 years involved in several large UK music festivals.
Working with singers from all backgrounds and other professional voice users to achieve optimum confidence and skill has been a real privilege. And I have worked with hundreds of successful vocalists to date.
Clinically, I work by targeting the specifics of the voice problem and re-examining patterns of breathing, posture, effort and anxiety. I can help you to start work on these straight away and then develop a programme of rehab, coaching or audition practice to get you to where you want to be quickly and effectively.
