My poems have appeared in Mslexia, The Interpreter’s House, Smtih’s Knoll, Poetry Review, and Reactions 2 and 3 and many other publications and I have been successful in competitions, most recently as a prizewinner in the New Writer poetry awards, 2006. My new collection, Blue, is published by Flarestack. My story "Maxwell Demon and the Butterfly's Wing" appears in Shazkaz and Other Stories, which is widely read in schools. For a number of years I was an English teacher until Teachers as Poets sessions run by Birmingham LEA and led by David Hart turned me into a writer. I now teach the Staff as Writers sessions that superseded Teachers as Poets, as well as the Making Poetry evening course at mac, Birmingham, where I also host and programme Poetry Bites, a regular event featuring readings by leading poets. I work extensively on Write On, a programme that puts writers in schools for five session residencies. I have been shortlisted three times for the office of Birmingham Poet Laureate. As a writer and consultant in schools, I remain committed to education, having recently been a member of a DfES working party. I also write for the screen.
