Jo is an experienced and enthusiastic teacher based in Merchant City, in the centre of Glasgow. She has a relaxed and fun approach to teaching, and 7 years private tuition experience. Jo teaches students of all ages and abilities and is happy to prepare students for ABRSM Grades 1-8, Trinity-Guildhall Grades 1-8 and school exams, as well as University or Music College entrance auditions. Or you could learn for fun!
For young children, Jo incorporates musical games & singing into flute lessons, to provide a fun and rounded musical education. These include repertoire from the Kodaly, Dalcroze and Orff methods of teaching.
Jo can accompany her students on the piano for exams, concerts and for fun.

Experience

Music Education Experience

Jo is heavily involved in education and community music, and completed an endorsement in this area as part of her undergraduate degree. She has received training from animateur Paul Rissman, and has experience in both Orff and Kodaly Musicianship Methods. She has worked with children aged 4 to 18, as well as adults with learning difficulties. Jo works as an instrumental teacher, both privately and with Inverclyde Council; also as music supervisor at St Charles’ Language Unit in Glasgow; with choral education project 'Little Larks' as a coach and instrumentalist; and with Live Music Now as a member of Flutes en Route.

Jo Ashcroft completed a BMus (Hons) degree in performance at the RSAMD in Glasgow, studying with Alison Mitchell, Janet Richardson, Lis Dooner and Katherine Bryan. Jo has recently been awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance with Distinction at the RSAMD, where she also received the John MacGregor Flute Prize for 2008/09.
