I am an open-minded violin and viola player and teacher with years of experience helping people of all ages and abilities to get the most out of music!

As a professional violinist and violist I have worked with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the UK (Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Gabrieli Players) performing in venues including the Royal Albert Hall, the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and the Cite de la Musique in Paris.

As a teacher I have worked in schools, music conservatories and privately and have experience teaching beginners, advanced students, one-to-one and group classes.

For me by far the most important thing when teaching the violin or viola (or any instrument for that matter) is understanding what the student wants from music. I do my best then to get a sense of why a particular student wants to learn an instrument and adapt my teaching to help them achieve their goals. Some students are keen on taking exams while some just want to play songs they know from school. I have both kinds of students and just about everything in between! It is my job as a teacher to help each one enjoy making music in their own way. The 'correct' path in my teaching then is the one which brings joy and satisfaction to the student.

Experience

Teaching music in Palestine

From 2008-9 I was working as a violin and viola teacher at the Edward Said Conservatory of Music in Palestine, an incredible experience which enabled me to immerse myself in an utterly different and completely wonderful culture through the meeting and teaching of it's young people.
