John Macnaughton
Patient, young and enthusiastic teacher, keen to pass on a real passion for music.
I studied on the Jazz course at Leeds College of Music for my undegraduate degree, and recently completed an MA in Performance at the School of Oriental and African Studies(University of London), achieving a distinction.
As a musician I primarily play Folk/World Music/Jazz. However, I trained classically before atttending music college and am available to take students through classical grades/repertoire if desired.

Musical and Teaching Experience
In the past John has;
-toured with the Leeds based ‘Bridge Rats Big Band’ (www.myspace.com/thebridgeratsbigband), playing on their 2008 and 2009 UK tours (the second of which featured UK saxophone legend Alan Barnes),
-gigged extensively with London based Ska band Charly Brown (http://www.myspace.com/xcharlybrownx),
-toured with the London Bubble Theatre Company playing in shows including 'Myths, Rituals, and White Goods' and 'Punchkin Enchanter',
-and won the prestigious Jack Petchey award for musical achievement at London's Centre For Young Musicians (CYM) in 2007.
John has experience doing workshops with children from the ages of twelve-to-eighteen on the recent Bridge Rats Big Band tours, and has led workshops with primary school children of all ages at Alma Primary School in Bermonsey as part of its recent Arts Week (June 2010).
Current projects include;
-being an active member of Leeds based Jazz collective "The Northern Bloc" (www.myspace.com/thenorthernbloccollective),
-playing in Tim Berne influenced quintet ‘Fractures’ (http://www.myspace.com/johnnyrichardsmusic),
-holding the 2nd Alto seat in the Leeds based 'Bridge Rats Big Band' (www.myspace.com/thebridgeratsbigband).
