Jonathan Booty
As a performer, I spent the major part of my career as Assistant Principal Flute in the Hallé Orchestra. Since leaving the orchestra to freelance and to pursue composition studies at Manchester University, I have worked on a freelance basis with many orchestras and freelance ensembles. As a chamber musician I have given recitals throughout England and Wales with Free Trade Winds wind quintet, Arioso flute quartet and my Flute, Viola and Harp trio, Trio Fauve. For the last 3 years I have toured the UK with the South Indian contemporary dance ensemble, Srishti http://www.srishti.co.uk performing carnatic music as an on-stage musician.
Throughout my professional career I have maintained a very active interest in flute teaching, firstly with my private teaching practice, tutoring all age ranges from 7 years to adults, a number of my pupils having gained places as undergraduates and postgraduates at major music colleges such as the R.N.C.M., Birmingham Conservatoire and Trinity College. I have also spent periods teaching at Salford and Manchester Universities. Since Sept. 2002, I have tutored part-time at Manchester University in composition and orchestration, taught the flute as well as coaching and directing chamber music groups and composition workshops. I teach the flute at MMU’s Alsager campus but nowadays concentrate from private tuition from my home in West Didsbury, Manchester
