Jonathan Desbruslais
A graduate from the Guildhall School of Music, Jonathan studied jazz with Martin Hathaway & Troy Miller and classical percussion with David Corkhill.
As a teacher, Jon works for Merton Music foundation, supplying one-to-one drum kit lessons and djembe workshops to the local schools. He also supplies drum tuition at Abercorn school, Marylebone Road, and Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham college. His teaching experience expands over 5 years, providing the highest level of drumming education.
As a jazz musician, Jon has been playing drums for Buddy Greco and Lezlie Anders for the past year. Highlights have included headlining Ronnie Scott’s on New Years eve, the Boatyard in Leigh-on-Sea with Paul Young, and the Boysdale Club, Canary Wharf. In Addition, Jonathan plays for a contemporary jazz group called The Philip Clouts Quartet. Jonathan joined the band around 2 years ago, and have performed across Great Britain and abroad. They are currently preparing to record their second album. He also plays drums for “My Gosh Marvellous”, a 1930s swing band, who have been together for around 5 years. They perform classic hits such as “Sing, Sing, Sing”, “In The Mood” and “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend”. He also performs for a Pop function band called Pandora's Jukebox, who have been together for many years, providing entertainment for a variety of functions around the globe. He also has considerable experience playing for many other pop bands, singer songwriters and stage shows.
Having spent time in Chile, Jonathan has developed a strong passion for Latin music. He writes arrangements for his own 14-piece salsa band and is actively involved in the Cuban scene in England. He has been performing and arranging for Jesus Cutino and Son De Cuba for the past year. Highlights have included a residency with Viva la Revolucion at Ronnie Scott’s and headlining the annual Cuban
Congress at the Camden Centre. He also plays for the Latin-soul band “Los Charly’s Orchestra” who perform every Saturday at Floridita, Wardour Street. They have recently performed for the opening club night of "Unico" in Shanghai, China.
